The country's second-biggest town, Vieux Fort lies to the south and is known for its beautiful beachfront and water sports. Vieux Fort is located in the Quarter of Vieux Fort and this area of St. Lucia is a great place to experience a number of colourful local markets, including a popular fish market.

St. Lucia's biggest and busiest airport, the Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) can be found on the southern side of the island, close to the Vieux Fort Quarter. Handling almost half a million travellers every year, the airport services many large passenger planes, including Airbuses. Hewanorra Airport is owned and managed by St. Lucia Air.

Sandy Beach is amongst the area's highlights and is lined with plenty of places to eat and drink. Many of the beaches around Vieux Fort boast views of the nearby Marie Islands, a noteworthy nesting place for giant turtles. Black Bay is a particularly scenic part of the region, being named after the famous pirate, Blackbeard.
