Located in the far south of the beautiful island of St. Lucia and next to Vieux Fort, St. Lucia Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) is a small facility offering air travel to both Caribbean and international destinations, including many American state capitals. Hewanorra Airport contains a single terminal, which services all 16 of the airlines operating there.
Vieux-Fort's airport lies on the far southern side of St. Lucia Island, next to the Caribbean Sea and directly south of Castries. The island's capital city, Castries is home to the smaller George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU), which is often referred to as Vigie Airport since it stands right next to Vigie Beach itself. Hewanorra Airport features an annual throughput of almost 500,000 passengers, with a fairly low number of aircraft movements, due to most flights being large charter jumbo jets.

Hewanorra International Airport is conveniently close to St. Lucia's East Coast Road and stands directly east of Laborie, Piaye and Choiseul. Ground transportation options include car hire, a public bus service and taxis, which link the island's more northerly resorts around Castries, Dauphin and Marigot Bay. Close to St. Lucia Hewanorra Airport, the town of Soufriere lies to the north-west and offers an attractive coastline, mineral baths, black sandy beaches and the beautiful Diamond Botanical Gardens.

Established as a military airfield during the Second World War, St. Lucia's Hewanorra Airport was used extensively by the US Air Force until the late 1940s. At this stage it was handed to the local government, who decided to use the airport for commercial flights. After this stage, growth was slow, but steady, and today Hewanorra Airport is capable of handling the largest of the jumbo jets and modern air buses.
A bank offering a variety of financial services including bureau de change can be found in the terminal, as well as a single ATM. St. Lucia Hewanorra Airport also offers duty-free shopping next to the passport control area, a number of cafes, and several gift stores. The airport itself has no on-site business facilities, although the nearby Skyway Inn will meet most requirements.

St. Lucia is a small tropical island offering everything typical of a Caribbean holiday destination and known for its thriving banana industry. Hewanorra Airport (UVF) lies on the southern side of St. Lucia and is noted for its proximity to Vieux Fort, the island's second-biggest town after the capital port city of Castries, to the far north. Although Vieux Fort is a modern town, many historic Colonial buildings still remain, many of which line Clark Street. Other notable towns on St. Lucia include Gros Islet on the northern coast, and Soufrière, on the south-western side of the island.
